Springfield is its own city with its own council and clerk, but from behind the wheel it reads as the west end of Battle Creek. The boundary is a street sign on Dickman Road and little else. It is a compact place, a bit over three square miles, built mostly of small post-war frame houses on narrow lots with detached garages and rear alleys. Dickman Road carries the traffic and nearly all the businesses, while the streets north and south of it are strictly residential. Because Springfield is barely two miles from our yard, work here is usually same-day, and swapping a full container for an empty one takes very little notice.

The housing is mainly one and one-and-a-half storey frame homes from the 1920s through the 1950s, with a run of mid-century ranches on the north side. Lots are narrow, driveways tend to be single-width and short, and a good number of properties are served from rear alleys that turn soft in spring. That matters, because a loaded truck will rut a wet alley, so we normally set the box on the driveway apron or on the street side instead. Basement and attic clean-outs, garage tear-downs, roof tear-offs and kitchen gut jobs make up most of what we haul out of Springfield. Shingles and plaster get heavy fast, so a 10 or 15 yard box is usually the right call. Overhead utility lines run along a lot of the alleys, which limits where the hoist can safely lift.
Because Springfield is so close, a lot of our work here is short-notice and small: a landlord turning a unit between tenants, a homeowner emptying a garage over a weekend, a contractor pulling out a bathroom on a Tuesday. The Dickman Road frontage brings a different kind of job again, small shop and workshop fit-outs where the debris is old shelving, suspended ceiling, counters and light fittings rather than building material. Storm work is seasonal and steady, since the older streets carry big maples that drop limbs across driveways. We also see a fair amount of driveway and slab breakout, which we keep as its own load, because clean heavy material has to be handled separately from mixed debris.

If the container sits entirely on your own driveway or yard, usually not. If it has to go on a Springfield street or in the road right-of-way, that is a City of Springfield matter rather than a Battle Creek one, so contact the city offices before delivery day and confirm what they want. Tell us what they say and we will place the box to match.
Sometimes, but we look at it first. A lot of the Springfield alleys are gravel, narrow and soft between March and May, and a loaded roll-off truck will cut ruts you then have to live with. Overhead lines are the other issue, since the hoist needs clear height. Nine times out of ten we end up on the driveway apron, which works fine.
For a single-layer tear-off on a typical Springfield bungalow, a 10 or 15 yard box is normally right. Shingles weigh far more than people expect, so filling a 20 yard with them will hit the weight limit long before you hit the fill line. If you are stripping two or three layers, tell us the square footage and we will size it properly.
Springfield is our closest service area, so same-day or next-morning delivery is normal if you call early. Because the run from our yard is only a couple of miles, mid-job swap-outs are straightforward too, which helps on gut jobs where you fill one box before the demo is finished. Ring (269) 924-0171 and we will give you a real window, not a guess.
