Marshall is the Calhoun County seat and the most architecturally protected town we work in. Its historic district is one of the largest National Historic Landmark districts in the country, with well over eight hundred buildings, and that shapes almost every job here. You are dealing with brick streets in places, mature street trees, deep front lawns and homes people are genuinely careful about. It sits where I-94 and I-69 cross, so getting there is easy, but placing a container in the old part of town takes more thought than anywhere else in the county. Outside the historic core there are ordinary subdivisions and light industry where access is straightforward.

The historic blocks around Mansion Street, Kalamazoo Avenue and Michigan Avenue hold Greek Revival, Italianate and Queen Anne homes, many with long narrow driveways, low garden walls and big overhanging maples. That combination is the main constraint: we need clear height for the hoist and a firm surface for the rails. Owners here are often mid-restoration, so the work is plaster removal, roof and porch rebuilds, window replacements and old slate or cedar coming off. Those materials are heavy and awkward, which usually points to a 10 or 15 yard box rather than a big one. Newer neighbourhoods on the edges of town and the industrial parks near the interstate take standard 20 and 30 yard work. Anything touching the exterior of a building in the historic district may need local review, and that is worth checking early.
Downtown Marshall generates a steady run of small commercial jobs, retail and office fit-outs in the Michigan Avenue blocks where the buildings are old, the rear access is shared and the timing has to suit the businesses either side. Residentially the pattern is restoration rather than replacement, so we get carriage house and outbuilding clearances, garden and tree work off the deep lots, and estate clear-outs in houses that have been in one family for generations. Those turn up a lot of stored material, from furniture to decades of garage contents. On the outskirts, subdivision and light industrial jobs are more conventional, with standard construction debris and far fewer constraints on where the container can sit.

For the container itself, mostly it changes where we put it and how we protect the surface. For the work, exterior changes in the district can need local approval before you start, so speak to the City of Marshall early. We are not the ones who grant that, but we would rather you had it sorted than have a box sitting idle on your drive for two weeks.
We board under the rails as standard, which spreads the weight and keeps the steel off the surface. Older Marshall driveways are often narrow and edged with brick or stone, so we walk it with you before setting down. If the drive genuinely cannot take a loaded box, we look at the street or a firm side yard instead rather than risk it.
Small. Slate is extremely heavy and cedar shakes fill fast once they are broken up, so a 10 or 15 yard box will normally hit the weight limit before it looks full. Tell us the roof area and how many layers are coming off and we will size it and, if needed, plan a mid-job swap rather than one oversized container you cannot legally haul.
Yes, and access there is easy compared with the old town. Exit 110 puts us right in, and the yards are built for truck traffic. We can run larger boxes and set up regular swaps if you are working through a project. Give us the gate arrangements and any site induction requirements when you book so the driver is not held up on arrival.
